A single lane of the A36 Lower Bristol Road is temporarily closed for flood defence works, Bath & North East Somerset Council has said.
The closure will allow the installation of a new flood defence between Waterfront House and Churchill Bridge, as part of the Bath Quays Waterside project, to be completed.
A council spokesperson said: “The left-hand, east-bound lane of the A36/Lower Bristol Road, approaching the city centre, will be closed to traffic between 09:00 and 15:30 BST weekdays for up to five weeks.
“Whilst delays are possible during these times, eastbound traffic will still be able to access the city centre via Churchill Bridge and the A36/A367 ring road using the remaining eastbound approach lane.”
The project has already seen flood defences installed on the south side of the River Avon – between Churchill and Midland bridges – in recent months, to “protect over 100 businesses and homes” on the Lower Bristol Road, the spokesperson added.
Work has included the installation of flood resistant windows and balustrades in existing buildings on the river edge, as well as building new walls and raising existing walls at the river edge.
The council said it hoped to complete the flood defence between the two bridges in 2018.
