Street to host new weekly market

A new weekly market is set to launch in Street, Mendip District Council has said, and it will feature the first evening market in Mendip.

The new market is set to launch on 14 June with the stalls trading weekly in the High Street and Farm Road on alternate weeks from 09:00 to 16:00.

On the first Thursday of the month, the market will run in the afternoon/evening running from 13:00 to 20:00.

Councillor Nigel Taylor, portfolio holder for neighbourhood services and community health, said: “We hope that this market is going to offer something a little different for shoppers. It’s the first time that Mendip has run a regular evening market.

“The weekly market alternating between Farm Road and the High Street will be an added bonus to the retail experience already available in Street.

“We believe it will become a well-established Mendip Market, adding to the ones already run in Frome, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, and Wells each week.”

Mr Taylor said that the market will host of mix of stalls, from everyday basics to artisan food and treats.

Familiar stalls from other Mendip markets will be present but the team is also looking for new traders to add to the mix.

Mr Taylor added: “The markets team are always looking for traders who can offer something different at their markets. For the Street market, the team is keen to hear from producers of good food. If you are interested in becoming a trader, please contact the council’s market team on 0300 303 8588 and ask to speak to the markets officer, or email markets@mendip.gov.uk
